What personal data I collect and why I collect it
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site I collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
This site uses cookies – small text files that are placed on your machine to help the site provide a better user experience. In general, cookies are used to retain user preferences, store information for things like shopping carts, and provide anonymised tracking data to third party applications like Google Analytics.
As a rule, cookies will make your browsing experience better. However, you may prefer to disable cookies on this site and on others. The most effective way to do this is to disable cookies in your browser. I suggest consulting the Help section of your browser or taking a look at the About Cookies website which offers guidance for all modern browsers.
Amazon EU Associates Programme
James Pritchard is a participant in the Amazon EU Associates Programme, an affiliate advertising programme designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.co.uk.
A cookie is stored on your computer or mobile device when you select an image, banner or link to an item. If you add an item to your basket and make a purchase, within a specific timeframe, I will receive a small commission. The third-party cookie is placed by Amazon and contains my associates programme ID.
Shop
The shop pages allow me to present a selection of items available to purchase from Amazon. When you select the ‘buy on amazon’, ‘buy now’ buttons or select an Amazon banner advert, then you will be redirected to amazon.co.uk. Anything you then do on the their website is between you and them and subject to their terms, conditions and privacy policy. Details of any purchases you make as well as your financial transactions are not shared with me.
Heart counter on recipes or posts
I use Heart This counter to see which recipes and posts readers like. A cookie (x_heart-this-status) is saved when you select the heart icon on a recipe or other post. This sets the status ‘hearted’ or ‘unhearted’ for a specific recipe or post. The cookie is used to know if you’ve selected it before, so when you select it again it toggles between ‘hearted’ and ‘unhearted’. This cookie lasts for 180 days.
Cookie consent
If you accept cookies on this website then the euCookie is saved which expires after one month.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Analytics
Google Analytics is switched off on this site. If in the future, this service is added, this privacy policy page will be updated.
Who we share your data with
I do not share data you provide in emails, contact forms or if you register and leave comments on posts with third parties. I will only request the minimal amount of information from you in order to perform a transaction, such as replying to a message or leaving comments on posts.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on my website (if any), I also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data I hold about you, including any data you have provided to me. You can also request that I erase any personal data I hold about you. This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
